Giving Your Business Curb Appeal

Giving Your Business Curb Appeal

April 18, 2017 by intake

curb appeal What is curb appeal?

Curb appeal is what potential customers see when the come to your business. It sets the tone for your business from the moment a potential customer sees your business, and let’s face it, they’re going to make an assumption about your business based on the outside. We all do it. No one wants to walk into in a business that looks run down on the outside. Here are three tricks that give your lawn curb appeal.

  1. Visible signage – One thing that can be often over-looked that can draw in many customers are signs. If people can not see your sign, how will they know you’re there? Make sure your signs are large, easy to spot and read for potential customers.
  2. Clean it up – Wash the windows and clear sidewalks of any debris. Make a clear path for potential customers to enter your business. Consider hiring a professional lawn care service like Legacy Group to maintain the appearance of your lawn.
  3. Add a few plants – You’ll never imagine how much of a difference a few pots of flowers can make to a lawn’s appearance. If you do not have time to maintain the plants, call Legacy Group and we will do the work for you.

Following these three quick tips, you’ll be able to add curb appeal to your business. Now, the level of curb appeal is up to you. Of course, we suggest the best. Our professional staff will maintain your lawn, so you won’t have to.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Summer Lawn Care

April 13, 2017 by gmg

green grassSummer is quickly approaching and Legacy Group wants to make sure your lawn looks perfect this summer. Below you’ll find a brief overview of the do’s and don’ts of lawn care.

DO:

  • Do Rake debris left on the lawn from winter. – This lifts the grass, clearing it of any sun-blocking leaves preparing it to grow.
  • Do water your lawn. – A common summer lawn care maintenance pitfall is inadequate watering. You may have been watering your lawn like normal during summers in the past, but was it enough? The evaporation that occurs because of the heat means less water is getting to your lawn roots. This summer, consider increasing the number of times you turn on the sprinklers during the week.
  • Dress your lawn with compost. – This adds fresh nutrients to your soil, improves the soil texture and may help fill low spots making your yard easier to mow.

DON’T:

  • Don’t misapply fertilizer – Although fertilizing your lawn is good for lawn care maintenance, misapply it, and things can get ugly. Go for a slow-release fertilizer with a lower nitrogen content to prevent damage and follow the directions carefully.
  • Don’t try to get rid of dandelions by poisoning them. – You can kill the leaves of a dandelion, but not the roots. Digging them out is the only sure-fire way to eliminate them.
  • Don’t use a poison. – Very few poisons only kill the thing you’re after and may cause additional problems by killing its enemies (good bugs) or weakening the plant.

Spring gardening tips from the Legacy Group!

March 30, 2017 by gmg

Spring is officially here and that means it’s time for some gardening! At the Legacy Group, we love making sure your yard is healthy and living up to its full potential. This is why we’re sharing 5 spring gardening tips with you. Check them out and then give us a call for all of your landscaping needs!

  • Clean out your garden. remove all the debris (leaves, leftover snow, etc.) Get rid of weeds, making sure that you get the roots so they won’t grow back.
  • Revitalize the soil. Your soil is likely dried out and packed after winter, it’s time to add moisture. Add organic material like compost or manure.
  • Trim old plants. Plants that survived the winter will need to be pruned so they’ll grow anew in the spring. Make sure to wait until mid-April or May in case there’s an unexpected freeze.
  • Add Mulch. One to three inches of mulch helps to prevent weeds and diseases. It also keeps the moisture in the garden and maintains the temperature.

These are just a few ways you can prepare your garden this spring. Once your spring garden is up and running again, it’s time to look to the future and decide what to do with your garden next. Of course, it will need some care in order to stay colorful and beautiful throughout the season, so don’t forget about them after your spring gardening.

Tips For Reviving Your Lawn For Spring

Tips For Reviving Your Lawn For Spring

March 15, 2017 by gmg

Winter has passed, hooray! Now it’s time to bring your lawn back to life for spring. At the Legacy Group, we enjoy providing our customers with the highest quality of lawn maintenance, fertilization and weed control based on what their property needs, but you can never have too much knowledge about your lawn, right? Especially if you have any kind of green-thumb like ours. That’s why we’ve taken the time to put together a short guide to reviving your lawn for spring. Check it out!

Soil Sampling

Topsoil is loose, dark, and full of decomposing organic material. Grass loves it. So if your yard is full of clay, it’s time to spread some topsoil.

Aeration

Even though lawns are technically a type of monoculture, grass is a complex ecosystem, full of plant roots, microbes, and insects. Maintaining that system’s proper functionality involves keeping the soil loose so that air and water can get in and out. Over time, the soil beneath your lawn becomes compacted, squeezing off nutrients from the grass.

Seed and Water
It may be time to reseed if your lawn has patches. Pick a species of grass that works with your soil type and climate and plant seeds early in the season—basically, as soon as the ground thaws.

These are just a few things you can do in order to prepare your lawn for the spring time.

Late Winter Landscaping Calendar

Late Winter Landscaping Calendar

February 14, 2017 by TaylorB

Spring is just around the corner. We may be dreaming of lush greenscapes, bright blooms, and birds chirping on windowsills, but before we enjoy the fruitful landscapes of spring, we have to make it through the winter. Not sure how to prepare the landscape for spring? Follow this monthly landscaping guide from Legacy Lawn Care of Georgia.

February Landscaping Tasks

  • raised vegetable gardenWalk through your landscape, taking note of any bare spots, drainage issues, or areas that need a refresh. February is an excellent time to redesign the landscape or create a custom outdoor living space.
  • Clean out bird houses and repair bird baths.
  • Test your soil so you know what type of fertilizer to use this spring.
  • Spray pre-emergent herbicides late in the month. Make sure all bermudagrass is dormant, since spraying herbicides on sprouts can be dangerous.
  • Prune fruit trees like apple and pear. Delay pruning peach trees until March.
  • Prune overgrown Burford holly bushes.
  • Rotate houseplants every week to give them full sun exposure for more even growth.
  • Plant sweet pea for a fragrant spring.
  • Start a spring veggie garden. Plant English peas, onions, elephant garlic, or asparagus. You can also build a raised bed for spring planting.
  • Fertilize fescue. You’ll need to reapply fertilizer in April.

March To-Do List

  • Spread lime if it’s been more than a year since your last application.
  • Plant tomato and annual flower seeds indoors. They should be ready to transplant in about 6 weeks.
  • Plant bare-root roses in well-tilled soil with plenty of nutrients.
  • Add beets, radish, turnips, and mustard to your spring veggie garden.
  • Prune holly shrubs.
  • Prune rose bushes, if you haven’t already.
  • Remove spent camellia blooms.
  • Repot indoor plants showing rapid growth.
  • Sharpen your mower blade, adjust your mower height, and tune up your landscaping equipment.

6 Reasons to Love the Landscape

6 Reasons to Love the Landscape

February 10, 2017 by TaylorB

Valentine’s Day is just days away, and the world is brimming with love and heart-shaped chocolate. The holiday reminds us that it’s easy to take things in our life for granted. That’s why we’re sharing the 6 things we love most about landscapes.

6 Reasons to Love the Landscape

  1. heart in birch treeLandscaping reduces AC costs. Grass lawns are up to 31 degrees cooler than cement driveways or asphalt streets. They reduce the temperature of the surrounding soil, keeping your home cooler in the summer. And shade trees keep the sun and wind away from homes, acting as a natural temperature regulator.
  2. They help us breathe easy. Lawns clean the air by capturing dust, pollutants, and smoke particles. Grass, trees, and shrubs remove carbon dioxide from the air to produce oxygen. Just 50 square feet of lawn produces enough oxygen for a family of four.
  3. Plants act as natural noise reducers, giving you a more peaceful home. Trees and shrubs can also be grown into privacy hedges to reduce visual distractions.
  4. Bigger landscapes make us happier by lowering stress levels, boosting energy, and improving quality of life.
  5. Large trees may even help reduce crime. They obstruct the view less than smaller trees and signal to potential burglars that the neighborhood is well-tended—and well watched.
  6. They’re beautiful. A trim grass lawn, stately row of trees, and bright, ornamented flowerbed improves the appearance of your lawn. This boost in curb appeal doesn’t only make you happier; it actually increases your property value by 5% to 20%.

3 Ways to Prepare Your Lawn for Spring

3 Ways to Prepare Your Lawn for Spring

January 19, 2017 by gmg

Before you know it, spring will be here. There’s a good chance you may take a look at your lawn in Winder, GA and be overwhelmed by what you see. Here are some winter lawn maintenance tips that you can do now that will help keep your lawn healthier and reduce the amount of work you will need to do this spring.

Inspect Your Lawn Frequently

gardening toolsIt’s a good idea to take a walk around your yard, especially after a storm to look for accumulation of leaves, fallen branches and any debris that may have been blown in. You will want to remove these items from your lawn to prevent damage to the grass. Mold and fungus can begin to grow from the moisture that can be trapped in these items and damage your lawn.

Assess what areas of your lawn might need renovation during the spring with reseeding. Look for moss or mushroom growth that are a sign that your lawn may need specific lawn care services to resolve these issues.

Get Out and Rake Occasionally

The cooler weather makes it a good time to rake areas of your lawn where thatch may be present. Thatch is a layer of dried, dead grass that can stop fertilizer, sunlight and oxygen from reaching the roots of healthy grass. Removing the thatch will help your lawn come back healthy in the spring.

Weed Prevention

During the cooler weather, most weeds are dormant. Once the temperature reaches 55 degrees, some weeds like crabgrass will begin to grow. To prevent crabgrass in your lawn, you need to put down a crabgrass preventer before spring for pre-emergent crabgrass control. A good way to tell that it’s time to apply pre-emergents is to watch for blooming forsythia.

7 Tips for Winter Property Maintenance in Georgia

7 Tips for Winter Property Maintenance in Georgia

January 10, 2017 by gmg

Landscape maintenance plays an important role in keeping your residential property an enjoyable environment. Here are some tips for keeping your property fresh and approachable, which is an important aspect of property management in Georgia.

Shane Smith has worked in landscaping-related jobs since the age of 14. At 23 he started Legacy Lawn Care, a company which he now runs with his wife and two children. Keeping the plants and soil healthy is an applied science, and to achieve great looking garden throughout the year we should familiarize ourselves with its requirements.

7 Winter Landscaping Tips for Residential Properties

  1. couple relaxing in new apartmentPre-emergents help prevent the growth of weeds and their germination.
  2. Fertilization needs to be done observing the exact ratio of chemicals, most commonly nitrogen, potash, and potassium in ratio 3-1-2.
  3. Irrigation is essential in spring, especially if the summer may bring potential drought.
  4. Plants are sensitive to stress. Make sure you don’t do anything that might stress the plants, like for example pruning, during the summer season.
  5. Seeding should be done in spring or fall.
  6. Final fertilization in the fall season should be applied before the frost settles.
  7. Cleaning the leaf leftovers help prevents disease and allows nutrients to reach the root system.

Legacy Lawn Care offers landscape maintenance service. We care about creating perfect conditions by applying eight treatments throughout the year, including aeration and overseeding to make the grass thicker and healthier. We also provide thorough pest, flea, fungus, ant, and weed control to eliminate the potentially harmful organisms. Legacy’s services which offer both residential and commercial lawn maintenance has made us trusted partners in property management in Georgia.

Georgia Drought Conditions & What It Means For You

Georgia Drought Conditions & What It Means For You

November 25, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

The Environmental Protection Division issued a Level 2 drought response for parts of Georgia on Thursday. Let’s take a deeper look. flower-887443_1920

“What is a Level 2 drought?”

Currently, many parts of Georgia have not seen any rainfall since early September.

Almost 25% of the state is now under an exceptional drought, which is the highest level, and more than 52% is in an extreme drought.

A Level 2 drought limits outdoor watering to two days a week on an odd-even schedule. Even-numbered addresses may water Wednesdays and Saturdays (4 p.m. to 10 a.m.). Odd-numbered addresses may water Thursdays and Sundays (4 p.m. to 10 a.m.). No water is allowed to be used for outdoor fountains, car washes or power washing of homes.

Drought Response Level 2 is in effect in these Georgia counties:

Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Athens-Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dade, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Haralson, Harris, Heard, Henry, Jackson, Lamar, Lumpkin, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Murray, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Union, Upson, Walker, Walton, White and Whitfield.

Drought Response Level 1 is in effect in these Georgia counties:

Baker, Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Columbia, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Elbert, Franklin, Glascock, Greene, Hancock, Hart, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Jones, Laurens, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, Marion, McDuffie, Miller, Mitchell, Muscogee, Oglethorpe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Quitman, Rabun, Randolph, Richmond, Schley, Seminole, Stephens, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taliaferro, Taylor, Terrell, Towns, Twiggs, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkes and Wilkinson.

“Can I burn my lawn clippings?

No. There is also currently a no burn law in effect. The following counties are under the burning ban:

Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Coweta, Crawford, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Richmond, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Twiggs, Upson, Walker and Walton.

“How will this affect me?”

Fall and winter are the best time to plant! With shorter days and cooler nights, plants require much less water this time of year.
