Need some inspiration for your Christmas lights? Check out these outdoor Christmas light ideas:lights

White Lights

Line your roof, windows and doors with white lights to give off a clean, crisp Christmas look.

Candy Cane Colors

Be inspired by your everyone’s favorite holiday treat: the candy cane. Alternate red and white lights around the roof and windows.

Lanterns

Line your walkway with lanterns and you will be sure to make quite the first impression!

Falling Snowflakes

Hang snowflake lights from the trees in your yard and with a few suspended decorations, you will have a snow storm (the good kind, at least!)

Railing Decor

Adorn your railing with lights, garlands, ribbons to greet your guests and neighbors!

Over-Achiever

We’ve all heard the phrase “the more, the merrier”, right? Well, that saying is reigns true with Christmas decorations. If you are going to go “all out”, then we recommend committing wholeheartedly.

Over Sized Bulbs

The classic bulbs are a classic winner! These larger bulbs will be a showstopper. Larger bulbs look fantastic in large bushes in front of your home.

Movie Themes

If you are going to do a movie theme, then you must commit. There are some great movies that will be perfect as holiday decorations. The Grinch or Candyland, just to name a few.

Georgia Drought Conditions & What It Means For You

Georgia Drought Conditions & What It Means For You

November 25, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

The Environmental Protection Division issued a Level 2 drought response for parts of Georgia on Thursday. Let’s take a deeper look. flower-887443_1920

“What is a Level 2 drought?”

Currently, many parts of Georgia have not seen any rainfall since early September.

Almost 25% of the state is now under an exceptional drought, which is the highest level, and more than 52% is in an extreme drought.

A Level 2 drought limits outdoor watering to two days a week on an odd-even schedule. Even-numbered addresses may water Wednesdays and Saturdays (4 p.m. to 10 a.m.). Odd-numbered addresses may water Thursdays and Sundays (4 p.m. to 10 a.m.). No water is allowed to be used for outdoor fountains, car washes or power washing of homes.

Drought Response Level 2 is in effect in these Georgia counties:

Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Athens-Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, Dade, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fannin, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gilmer, Gordon, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Haralson, Harris, Heard, Henry, Jackson, Lamar, Lumpkin, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Murray, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Union, Upson, Walker, Walton, White and Whitfield.

Drought Response Level 1 is in effect in these Georgia counties:

Baker, Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Calhoun, Chattahoochee, Clay, Columbia, Crawford, Crisp, Decatur, Dooly, Dougherty, Early, Elbert, Franklin, Glascock, Greene, Hancock, Hart, Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Jones, Laurens, Lee, Lincoln, Macon, Madison, Marion, McDuffie, Miller, Mitchell, Muscogee, Oglethorpe, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Quitman, Rabun, Randolph, Richmond, Schley, Seminole, Stephens, Stewart, Sumter, Talbot, Taliaferro, Taylor, Terrell, Towns, Twiggs, Warren, Washington, Webster, Wilkes and Wilkinson.

“Can I burn my lawn clippings?

No. There is also currently a no burn law in effect. The following counties are under the burning ban:

Banks, Barrow, Bartow, Bibb, Butts, Carroll, Catoosa, Chattooga, Cherokee, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, Columbia, Coweta, Crawford, Dawson, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Floyd, Forsyth, Fulton, Gordon, Gwinnett, Hall, Haralson, Heard, Henry, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jones, Lamar, Lumpkin, Madison, Meriwether, Monroe, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Paulding, Peach, Pickens, Pike, Polk, Putnam, Richmond, Rockdale, Spalding, Troup, Twiggs, Upson, Walker and Walton.

“How will this affect me?”

Fall and winter are the best time to plant! With shorter days and cooler nights, plants require much less water this time of year.

Have other questions about how this will affect your landscape? Let’s chat: (678) 425-2298

Prepare for Winter with These Tips

Prepare for Winter with These Tips

November 11, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

The weather is cooling off and when it comes to your lawn, it means quite a few things!

Prepping your lawn before it goes into dormancy can help you in many ways, including less work for you in the Spring. Follow these few simple lawn care tips to ensure that your lawn will greet the spring with vigor: first frost

Fertilize

Keep in mind final lawn fertilization should be performed in the fall before the first frost. If you’re not sure which fertilizer to choose, consult a qualified lawn care professional (like Legacy Group).

Mow

Raise your mower up one notch to keep a substantial blade on the grass for the dormant months. Leave the clippings on the lawn if you have a mulching attachment, otherwise bag them.

Rake

Clearing leaves and other lawn debris off the turf prevents disease and permits the necessary nutrients to reach the roots before your lawn goes dormant.

Fall Lawn To-Do’s for your Georgia Lawn

Fall Lawn To-Do’s for your Georgia Lawn

October 29, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

You may not think so, but Autumn is an important season for lawn care maintenance. Now is not the time to skip out on your honey-do list. This list by Legacy Group should keep you in line: mums

Mowing

Many grass varieties in the south continue to grow in the fall season. Their growth may slow down, but the trimming, edging, and mowing must continue until the winter dormant season starts.

Pruning

Many plants continue to grow through the fall season. They must tended to throughout the fall. Plus, pruning shrubs and bushes during will lead to less spring clean up!

Fall Color

Mums, mums, mums! They are beautiful and hardy plants that last throughout the fall season. You can purchase them at many local grocery stores and nurseries. A simple pot on the porch, or planting them in a few key flower beds will add a little life and color to your landscaping.

Weed Control

If there are weeds in flower beds or grass, this may be the time to apply a post-emergent. Treat as necessary in an effort to be proactive and keep the weeds under control before they get out of control.

Fall Favorites: Outdoor Fireplaces

Fall Favorites: Outdoor Fireplaces

October 14, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

The first time that you fill up your fireplace with wood, strike a match, and watch the flame dance among your kindling, paper, and finally catch to fill your room with warmth – that’s the first true sign of fall. It’s one of our favorite things about the season – whether indoors or outdoors there is nothing like a hot fire to warm up your fingers and toes. Outdoor fireplaces are a great way to take this experience outside so that you can enjoy the beauty of fall’s changing leaves and beautiful autumn colors, while keeping warm. first sign of fall

Types of Fireplaces

If you already have a porch or patio connected to your home, that is a natural place to add a new fireplace. Legacy Lawn Care will take care of all of the necessary renovations to install your new outdoor fireplace and make sure that your current porch or patio and your home are safe from the dangers of the flickering flames. Outdoor fireplaces can be either natural, wood burning hearths or can be fitted with gas lines and alternative logs so that you never have to worry about splitting and carrying wood.

Traditional, closed fireplaces are one of the safest outdoor fire options. The chimney funnels the smoke away from you and your guests while you enjoy the heat, and there is no fear of something falling into the flame from above or the sides. The front of the fireplace can even be closed off with a metal grate or screen to prevent embers from popping out of the front of the fireplace. There are many other ways to bring the warmth of a fire into your backyard. Open fire pits are great for residents that enjoy roasting marshmallows, oysters, or even BBQ over an open flame. Built big or small, open fire pits are a more cost effective way to add a warm fire to your outdoor seating area.

Legacy Lawn Care has many years of experience designing and installing outdoor fireplaces in Winder, GA. Call us today for an estimate and design on the perfect outdoor fireplace for your Georgia home!

Identifying Poison Ivy

Identifying Poison Ivy

August 19, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

If you’ve lived in Georgia for a little while now, chances are you know how to identify poison ivy. However, we’re constantly reminded that many people do not know how to identify the itchy plant here at Legacy Lawn Care in Winder, GA. To help combat this, we compiled a guide to help you identify poison ivy in and around your property! Poison_Ivy_Leaves

Three Leaves

Look for a vine with groups of three leaves! The most distinguishing feature of poison ivy is that it always has clusters of three leaves. There are not many other obvious distinctions otherwise.

Know The Look

Poison Ivy has a cluster of three leaves connected closely at the end of a long stem. The tip of each leaf should be pointed.  Almost always, the middle leaf has a stem while the two side leaves do not have stems and grow from the vine. Also, poison ivy vines typically look like a tattered rope.

Not Green? Still Dangerous!

Poison Ivy changes colors just like other leaves. Even when it changes from green to red, it is still unsafe due to the urushiol oil remaining.

Animal-Safe Doesn’t Mean Human-Safe

If you’re questioning whether a plant may be poison ivy and think, “the animals are eating it, it must be fine.” That is NOT a safe assumption. Grazing creatures will gladly eat poison ivy.

If you have any other additional questions or concerns, take a look at PoisonIvy.org! If you think that you have poison ivy on your property and would like it removed, make sure to contact Legacy Lawn Care at 678-425-2298 and get that pesky plant removed off of your property.

Dealing With Mosquitos with Legacy Group

Dealing With Mosquitos with Legacy Group

July 22, 2016 by Taylor McGlamery

It’s finally dark. It’s just now become cool enough to emerge from your air-conditioned house to enjoy your beautiful backyard and not pass out from the Georgia heat for the first time today. Relaxing, right?

Until the mosquitos show up. mosquitos in georgia

Mosquitoes can carry ZIKA, West Nile Virus, and many more diseases. The unfortunate truth is that this list of illnesses keeps growing. Atlanta consistently ranks among the top of the list for the most mosquito-infested cities in the United States. It’s an impressive dynasty that we Georgians unfortunately get to live in the shadow of.

How can you possibly fight such a rampant force of nature?

By calling Legacy Lawn Care in Winder, GA, of course!

Our goal is to eradicate the mosquitoes currently existing in your yard and to prevent future invasions going forward with our 5 step Legacy Lawn Care’s Mosquito Shield Program.

In the meantime, we want to give you a couple tips to deal with those pesky mosquitos:

  • Repellents – If you’re looking for a bug spray, keep in mind that mosquitos hate citronella, cloves, eucalyptus, and lavender
  • Mosquito Bites – If you’re tired of the constant itch that comes from being bitten by those nuisances, try applying a lemon slice or apple cider vinegar directly to the affected area!

If you’d like to stop being itchy after every time you go outside, give us a call at (678) 425-2298 to schedule your mosquito treatment!
